Bärbel Schmidt, who was born on 6th June 1957 in Waltrop near Dortmund, Germany, started her career in 1978 with Hewlett Packard Germany as a sales assistant.

She subsequently took on various positions in marketing, human resources and sales. Between 1992 and 1996 she was responsible for HP's largest customer in Europe.

In 1996 she became German sales director for HP Germany.

Compaq in May 2002 Bärbel Schmidt became general manager of the Personal System Group in Germany and at the same time Vice President for the company.

In January 2004 Bärbel Schmidt started as a member of the executive board within the Actebis Group and has been responsible for the Actebis country organisations in Germany Actebis Peacock GmbH and Austria Actebis Computerhandels GmbH since then.
